Zefyria

Zefyria

Zefyria is the first capital of Milos island and was built by the Venetians. Because of a large earthquake in 1767 it was abandoned and deserted.

Today it is a small village, where residents are mainly engaged in agriculture. It is well known for its yearly festival, held in mid-August, honoring the memory of the Virgin Mary Portiani. The church of Virgin Mary Portiani is the old Cathedral, built in the 17th century.

The Zefyria is about 5 km from Adamas and 9 km away from Plaka. You pass through the village in order to visit the beaches of Agia Kyriaki and Paliochori.
