The capital of Milos is Plaka, which is built over the village of Adamas, at an altitude of about 200 m.

It is a picturesque capital with narrow cobbled streets, stairs and small squares hiding taverns, shops and several beautiful mansions. Since vehicles are not allowed in the afternoon, even if many streets aren’t accessible by cars, visitors are able to enjot their relaxed walk in order to refill their batteries and njoy the beauty.

Visit the castle which was built by the Venetians in the 13th century and wait until nightfall in order to enjoy a magnificent sunset and a panoramic view over the bay of Milos island. At the top of Plaka stands the Assumption of the Virgin Mary or Mesa Panagia.

Walking through the narrow streets you will come across a beautiful church on the edge of the cliffs; It is the Cathedral of Milos, Birth of the Virgin Mary or Panagia Korfiatissa. If you reach it during the early evening hours you might come across a young couple being joined by the bonds of marriage.

While in Plaka, it is worth visiting the Archaeological Museum of Milos. If you have not been to the Louvre, this is a first class opportunity to admire the statue of Venus de Milo (exact copy) up close.
